Down Time

Recovery after races is important but it is also important to have some down time between seasons! What does that mean? Decrease your total weekly mileage, take a break from speed work, lower your long run mileage e.g. marathoners should stick with ten miles and halfers with six miles. Substitute some of your runs with some cross training. Good options for runners include: walking, biking, swimming. It's also a good time to add some strength training.

PB FREE summer runs are a great way to get in your long run on Saturday mornings. Go here for more information.

Managing down time and gearing up for early fall marathons can be tricky. Need help with a schedule? Coach Amy is offering complimentary summer long run mileage schedules for all Fall 2013 PB members. Not yet a member? Join here.

Get Your Butt in Gear

Get your butt in gear this summer! Literally.
Summer is a great time to start a strength training program to improve your running efficiency and prevent injury. Many runners suffer from weak butt syndrome and weak core muscles. Are you moving in your thoracic spine and loading your hip flexors and obliques? It is rare to find strengthening classes that are created especially for runners and taught by a licensed physical therapist and running coach. Throw in a weekly yoga class in combo and you will be ready to kick butt this fall. Click here for class times and packages. You do not need to be a PB member to participate.

Congratulations to all who completed the Hospital Hill half marathon yesterday. Woohoo!

Special thanks to Amy S., Allison S., Greg, Mireya, David, Ethan and Amanda who donated their Saturday morning and much needed supplies to support the runners at the best aid station on the course! They handed out ice, oranges and Twizzlers (and in some special cases beer and iced coffee) to the HH racers. Also a shout out to Coach Amy's daughter: Nina and her friend Violet for their help.
