The Little Engine That Will

I'm climbing my way back to running, and the process is long and steep. Unlike recovery from previous injuries, this one requires learning to run differently; to reinvent my run gait. And that involves rewiring 35+ years of muscle memory. It's painstakingly slow and makes me want to Pull. My. Hair. Out. as I focus on Each. Stupid. Step.

Thankfully, helping patients rehabilitate their gait is something I do all the time. I know what to do and how to do it! Unfortunately, sustainable changes in biomechanics require experimentation and small incremental changes over time. It's a long, uphill climb, and to reach the top, I must trust the process and exercise patience. If my patients can do it, so can I. I think I can. I know I can. I will!
