Update on Weather Forecast and Long Run Plans

It is not looking good for our group run this weekend. I recommend sneaking a run in 
tomorrow morning before armageddon. Stay safe! I will make an official 
announcement and update tomorrow, but it is safe to assume we will cancel. 

National weather service has issued an... 

Ice Storm Warning now in effect from noon Friday to midnight
CST Sunday night... 

* timing... light precipitation will begin Friday afternoon...
with periods of freezing rain through Sunday afternoon or 
evening. 

* Ice accumulations... total ice accumulations during the multi- 
day period of one-quarter to three-quarters of an inch. 

* Main impact... major impacts to travel are likely as ice 
accumulates on area roadways. Bridges and overpasses will be 
most susceptible to ice accretion. Ice accumulation on trees 
and powerlines may result in scattered power outages.

Winter is messing with our runs!

The weather is not playing nice. Right now it is beautiful, but our forecast for both Saturday and any potential make-up on Sunday is not looking good. This time it is an ice factor. To speed notification of last minute changes in our group run plans, a group text will be sent to members registered for January who provide their phone number. We try to make decisions and notify within one hour of the run. If we do not have your cell phone number, please text Coach Amy 913-549-8174. Please include your name when you text. 

Newport Marathon Spring Group Trip - You don't want to miss this!

Newport Coastline 

The RRKC group trip to Newport for the half and full marathon is coming up! Some runners are planning to extend their trip to cheer at the Boston Marathon, only a train ride away.  Mo is renting a car for convenience and has rented a house for the group near the beach and less than a mile from the start/finish line of the Newport race. The beautiful Newport area is home of the America's Cup, the Tennis Hall of Fame, Naval War College, and huge mansions that were owned by the Rockefeller's and Vanderbilt's as summer homes. There is also Cliff Walk, a path that overlooks the ocean.

Pat and Kevin are in Orlando with their families and racing the Disney marathon on Sunday morning! It will be unseasonably nice and cool for them. We wish them success and hope they reach or surpass their goals and most of all HAVE FUN! 

RRKC Group Run Rescheduled for Sunday 7:30AM

Brrrrr. For your safety, we rescheduled our group long run for Sunday, January 8th when the effective temperature with windchill is expected to be above zero. It will be bitter cold so remember to wear layers and put some hand warmers in your gloves. 

Meet at Urban Table. Start time is bumped to 7:30AM to allow for sunlight and a little bit more warmth. Distance and course map have not changed. Go here for map.
