A running log? Blech! Who has time for that?

What good is a running log anyway?

A log can be very helpful in recognizing patterns that affect your running performance. They are useful in determining factors that may contribute to injury and also in assessing the efficacy of a particular training program.

These details are essential to professionals who help runners such as shoe fitters, running coaches, doctors and physical therapists.

A log can be basic or very detailed. Logs can include:
  • Distance
  • Speed
  • How you felt
  • Cross training activities
  • Nutrition
  • Sleep
  • New shoes
  • Other things going on in your life (new job, divorce, illness)
There are lots of running logs to choose from. They vary widely from good old fashioned paper and pen or pre-printed bound booklets to fancy websites connected to mapping services and timing devices.

Many area runners and several PBrs are logging their mileage on a social network site for runners called Daily Mile. If you mention Personal Best runs and classes in your posts it helps promote PB too! Check out Daily Mile!

This week's course will be set up for a maximum of 16 miles. Map.

And We're OFF

Personal Best Fall Run Program is OFF and Running.

PB got off to a running start last week with packet pick-up, Runner's 101 clinic and our first long run of the season on Saturday at Metro Walk and Run. We are thrilled to have a nice sized group and welcome all the new faces to the PB family!

It's not too late to join. Membership is prorated. Recruit your friends now and your name will be entered in our raffle for a $100.00 gift certificate of your choice.

Meet and Greet
Our first run of the season was the Meet and Greet Run. The most interesting tid bit recorded: Pat R. plays bass in a U2 tribute band. Rock ON Pat!

Beat the Heat
Through Oct.1st, PB runs start at 6:00 a.m. to beat the heat, but in August it can still be hotter then heck and humid even in the early morning. Pay careful attention to your body.
  • Hydrate well the night before a long run
  • Stop at every aid station,
  • Slow down your pace
  • Consider shortening your planned distance.
  • Refer to the Safety and Emergency Procedures (also in your packet).
Runner's 101 Retake
Several of you missed Runner's 101 so we are planning a second clinic for this season (TBA). If you are interested in attending let us know at kcrunning@hotmail.com.

PB Warriors did the DASH

Mike B., Allison B., Amy S., Coach Amy, Dave R. and MO

PB runners braved the heat, the mud, the fire, the cargo nets and barbed wire. The Amy's bought out the Warrior Dash store and yes, Dave ran in that kilt! Cris is on injured reserve, but sporting a kilt and helmet, he cheered us on and took lots of gruesome pictures.

Mike B., Dave R., Coach Amy, Amy S., Mo and Allison B.

One thing the pictures don't do justice is the feel of the heat bouncing off the trail, the prickly fire, which looks much bigger when you are jumping over it, and the sweet smell of animal waste! Oh the smell... And we are all ready to do it again.

Check out more pics of the lovely warriors on PB's Facebook!
