PB to present at Brookwood Math and Science Night

Volunteers Needed!

Personal Best is always looking for ways to help out the community and to promote health and fitness. We've manned aid stations in local races and volunteered at corporate health fairs. Next week we will attend Brookwood Elementary's Math and Science Night, Sneakers and Beakers — The Math & Science of Sport.

We need 2-3 volunteers to help out as we share how running helps the heart and how core strength helps runners! Volunteers will be entered into a raffle to win 50% off PB membership which can be applied to the spring 2012 run program or any upcoming Studio PB fitness classes.

Thursday, January 27th, 6-8:00 p.m. (arrive 5:30 p.m. to help set up if possible).

If you can help out, contact us at kcrunning@hotmail.com.

Gary Messick

It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of great friend and past Personal Best member, Gary Messick. Gary died January, 19th at age 53 of a heart attack. He leaves behind his sweet wife Pam who also runs with Personal Best, a daughter, son and two beloved grand sons.

We will post more information about services soon.

I will always remember Gary and his quiet, soft demeanor. In training for my first half marathon, Gary stayed with me for my first eleven miler. We found ourselves lost around the KU Med campus and eventually made it back to Westport to learn that the eleven miles became thirteen!

Gary will be missed by us all, but never forgotten.

Congrats Topeka to Auburn Racers!

Topeka to Auburn was a hilly half marathon course with snow and five miles of gravel, but the scenery was beautiful, temperatures relatively warm and as always the Personal Best runners were the best of company.

Congrats to Brad Garstang, Kevin Butler, Rachel Gordon, Dave Rios, Allison Blanchard, and Dan McDonald on completing this challenging race.

Brad flying up the hill placed 9th in his age division.
