If you'd like to join us in cheering or want to help by donating orange slices, please contact Erica at ebcrist@hotmail.com

Good luck to Dave R. and son, Chris. And to Mike B, Amy L and Scott M! Go forth and conquer the hills and humidity! We will be waiting for you!

RRKC FREE Run Cancelled Memorial Weekend

Due to flooding, we are cancelling our free run this weekend. Our free runs are held on the trails and due to excessive rain, there is flooding and mud making the trails difficult and in some places risky to run and we are expecting even more rain between now and Saturday. We encourage you to meet with your pace groups for a safe run on the road. Enjoy your holiday!

Summer Runnin' is Gonna Sizzle with RRKC

Our spring session has come to an end with major successes for all our runners! We will celebrate soon. Watch your inbox for an e-vite. In the meantime, it is important to recover from your spring races and stay in run shape over the summer.

Summer Runnin' TO DO checklist:

  • Restore muscle tissue tension, movement and function.
  • Choose and register for a fall race.
  • Develop a summer training plan.
  • Attend RRKC's Free Summer Runs.
  • Register for RRKC Fall run session.

To restore muscle tissue tension, texture, movement and function consider Active Release Therapy (ART) with Coach Amy at Sport+Spine. One visit is likely enough unless you are dealing with an injury. Schedule sportspinekc.com or contact amy@sportspinekc.com.

In your post spring race recovery bliss, it is time to start considering your fall race. Popular fall races fill quickly and can catch you by surprise with a SOLD OUT - especially half marathons. Our group race this year is the Des Moines Marathon. Run the half or the full marathon on Sunday, October 16th. There is an option to join the I35 Challenge. You can run the KC half or full on October 15th and then run the Des Moines half or full the next day! Any combo works, however Coach Amy does not recommend back to back full marathons (just saying).

With your fall race on the horizon, you must stay in run shape. If you need a summer training plan, contact Coach Amy at info@roadrunnerskc.com. A personalized summer training plan is $35.00.

Weather and summer vacations can lay waste to the best of summer run training intentions. Stay on track with RRKC FREE summer runs May 21-July 23rd 6:30 - 8:30 a.m. The first two summer runs, May 21 and 28, start at the tennis courts at 103rd and Marty. All other TBA. Contact howieerenberg@gmail.com for summer run notifications.

Summer runs are reverting back to the "good old days" with a simpler format. We will be set up for 10 miles on paved trail, no flags or maps. BYO hydration for pre and post run as there will be no home base aid station. Water will be provided at mile 2 and 4 until 8:30 a.m.

If you are able to help Howie with a water stop for any of the summer run dates, contact howieerenberg@gmail.com.

Last on your list, grab your friends, family and co-workers and sign up for the RRKC Fall 2016 session. The session starts July 30th and registration will open SOON.  Subscribe here to receive updates and announcements.
