What is YOUR Goal this Week?

Take some time to reflect on your running goals this week. You should have a solid training plan to meet your spring running goals. If you haven't already:
  1. Read through the PB member packet and make sure you understand the training principles. Please contact Coach Amy if you have not received the members password or the packet.
  2. Choose your training plan and check that you are on target with total weekly mileage and long run distance. If not get in touch with Coach Amy right away for modifications to your plan.
  3. If you've chosen a race or training plan that does not line up well with the PB long run schedule, contact Coach Amy. She can modify your plan to fit!
  4. Schedule a free 15 minute screening with Coach Amy. This quick screen will help identify stability of mobility deficits that could impact your success or cause injury. Also available is a lean muscle mass assessment.
  5. Choose your cross training and strengthening activities. We recommend Coach Amy's strength classes held Wednesday nights, Friday mornings and Sunday nights.

This week, we continue to build base mileage. Our long run this Saturday starts from Foos. We will be set up for 12 miles. Run starts at 7:00 a.m. If inclement weather is forecast, remember to check the website one hour before our planned run for updates. You can also receive instant updates via Twitter @personalbestkc.

Help Support Dan

Dan has been a PB runner off and on for many sessions and is returning to run with us again this spring. You will remember him by his thick Boston accent yelling, "wAHter" with us a few years ago at the KC marathon aid station. Dan is training to run the Boston Marathon 2014 for chairty and needs support from his PB family. He will be running with a team from the Lazarus House to increase awareness of the issue of homelessness, not only in Greater Boston but also in Kansas City. To support Dan and his cause, please GO HERE!

Ice, Ice Baby

We had a slippery start to the first run of the session. Many of you took appropriate precautions by slowing your pace and shortening your stride. Because you ran with a slightly different form, you may be sore in different areas then you are used to! Expect for that to subside or be significantly improved by Tuesday of this week. If not, please contact Coach Amy.

Next Saturday's run location is changing due to a conflict with the Battle of the Bean 5K race. We will NOT meet at Foos. Instead, meet at the CVS North location across from Big Biscuit - check your member handbook for directions. Start time is 7:00 a.m. and the course distance is 10 miles.

Maps are now available via Garmin Connect so you can check out the course before your arrive on Saturday. If you are a PB member and sign up for Garmin Connect, please e-mail Howie with your user name so he can accept you.

For more details on getting started with Garmin Connect. Go HERE.

Please note, Coach Amy's family is currently dealing with a medical emergency. If you are expecting training plan changes, these may not come to you until later this week. In the meantime, follow the rule of 10%. Do not increase your total weekly mileage by more than 10% or your long run distance by more than 2 miles.
