Speed work begins only after a base level of fitness is built and is perfectly timed in the training schedule to allow you to peak at the right time for your race. All levels of runners can benefit. Speed training develops improved running form, efficiency, power, raises anaerobic threshold, and trains fast twitch muscle fibers.
Speed work sessions are a good opportunity for 1:1 time with Coach Amy. After a mile warm-up, Coach Amy leads runners in plyometrics. Speed work is concluded with a 1 mile cool down. Water is provided, but runners are encouraged to bring their own sports drink if needed.

Intervals, intervals and MORE intervals! Interval workouts will vary with repeats and ladders. We will meet Wednesday evenings August 14-October 23 at Roe Park. Each training schedule includes eight to ten speed sessions. Refer to your PB speed work training plan for your specific workout. Chicago and KC racers: if you want to fit in ten weeks of speed work, you will need to begin speed work on your own the week of July 28th and August 4th respectively. Training schedules are coming soon to the website in Members Only. They will also be available in packets on August 3rd.
